Effective Altruism Bayero University Kano – Code of Conduct
Purpose
EA BUK exists to help students explore how they can use their careers and resources to do the most good. We aim to foster a safe, welcoming, and intellectually curious community where everyone can contribute meaningfully, regardless of their background.
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all members, participants, and organizers of our programs, events, and online platforms.

As members of EA BUK, we commit to:
Respect Others
Speak and act respectfully — regardless of differences in background, beliefs, gender, ethnicity, or social class.
Listen actively and assume good intentions.
Disagree without being disagreeable.
Foster an Inclusive Environment
Ensure everyone feels welcomed and included in discussions, activities, and opportunities.
Avoid cliques, in-jokes, or exclusionary behavior.

Be Supportive and Encouraging
Help each other grow intellectually and personally.
Share resources, encourage participation, and celebrate contributions.
Uphold Integrity and Intellectual Honesty
Be open to changing your mind and exploring ideas with humility.
Do not misrepresent EA ideas or impose them forcefully on others.
Protect Community Health and Safety
Do not tolerate harassment, coercion, or manipulation.
Always obtain clear, enthusiastic consent before engaging in any romantic or intimate behavior — especially within power dynamics (e.g., facilitator-fellow).
Maintain Confidentiality Where Appropriate
Respect others’ privacy and avoid sharing sensitive information without permission.
